Our Urban Test Garden is located in Sumner County, Middle Tennessee. We’re in Zone 7B with a fairly long growing season, plenty of heat, and cold enough winters that we can’t quite grow “anything and everything.”

We have a small greenhouse, raised beds, and in-ground rows, but our suburban lot and heavy tree coverage means we don’t have a perfect growing location; each garden space only gets about 4 hours of direct sun, like many of our urban gardener customers. We’re constantly trying new varieties so we can bring you the best of the best – the veggies that grow well in less-than-perfect locations, containers, and small footprint spaces – the conditions many urban and suburban families have to deal with!

Below are our tried-and-true favorites, with all the pros and cons. We hope you try them and love them, and let us know how they work in your family’s garden!
